Did you miss the Martinez Zombie Beer Crawl and the Pleasanton Ghost Walk? Don’t worry! You can still enjoy spooky activities in the San Francisco East Bay. We are half way through October, but there is plenty of time to cross some things off your Fall bucket list! From pumpkin patches to corn mazes, haunted houses to spooky escape rooms, here’s a list of activities for all ages!
Pumpkin Patches
Why would I just go to any grocery store and pick out a pumpkin, when pumpkin patches have so much to offer? You can find corn mazes, hay rides, petting zoos and more! If you have kids, visit the Shadelands Pumpkin Patch where there are games and a petting zoo. They are designed with younger children in mind, allowing you to enjoy added experiences beyond pumpkin picking. In Livermore, G&M Farms offers one of the biggest and elaborate corn mazes in the Bay Area! With the corn maze covering 6 acres of land, I hope they have a rescue team on standby for when I get lost! For an autumn festival experience, stop by the Smith Family Farm in Brentwood. They offer live music on the weekends, usually bluegrass or folk music, and even a butterfly exhibit!
Museums and More
Don’t forget about the Halloween events thrown by our local museums and amusement parks! One famous adventure is the Winchester Mystery House. Have you already explored the 110 rooms open to the public? No worries! They are currently offering new experiences this spooky season; a terrifying haunted maze, live entertainment, and more. Looking for something to knock your socks off? Check out Fright Fest at Six Flags where there is also a haunted maze. When the sun has gone down for the night on special nights, the fog starts to rise. Actors in the scare zones are dressed in costumes, and you never know what might come at you! For an entirely new experience, check out the Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose. Dedicated to ancient Egypt, they are hosting a Halloween night! With trick or treating to start off the evening, they also offer a haunted tomb tour, a live DJ, photo opportunities and more.
VR Experiences Diablo Escapes
In Walnut Creek, did you know that Diablo Escapes has two spooky VR escape rooms plus a VR haunted house? Manor of Escape is a scary favorite: decked out in plague doctor masks, you enter the Manor of Count Malum who has been performing interdimensional experiments. Can you and your team stop the mad scientist and escape the creatures he released? A new addition to our VR experiences is Alien Abduction. Looking for an old lady’s lost cat, you find yourself getting abducted by aliens! You’ll need to figure out their alien technology and escape, before you run out of time. Add our haunted experience, the Hospital of Horror, to any of the escape rooms to enjoy a good scare! Our version of a haunted house lets you explore the halls of a long abandoned hospital, and your best tip is that Hospital of Horror is 50% off until November 9, 2025. Book now for a spine-tingling adventure at Diablo Escapes!
Halloween Party at Retro Junkie
Established in 2017, Retro Junkie is a time machine that can take you back to the 80’s. With cover bands playing the hits, as well as the occasional appearance of rock legends, there is never a dull moment. Try your hand at the retro arcade games; will your name be top of the Street Fighter 2 at the end of the night? This October, they are playing some classic Halloween movies; Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, etc., with one last movie on October 22nd. Join them on the 31st for their 3rd Annual Frankenfest! Enjoy tributes to Marilyn Manson and Deftones while drinking Halloween themed cocktails. Don’t forget to come dressed up: there will be a prize for best costume!
Conclusion
The East Bay is packed with Halloween activities. The old traditions are still celebrated and our local communities still welcome trick or treaters! And in addition to the activities above, I should also mention checking your local groups to see if anyone is hosting a trunk or treating event! You could decorate the trunk/back of your car, and have a safe space for your kids to get some candy. But you can be sure there are many old and new ways to enjoy this Fall season! Diablo Escapes is our favorite, of course, and we hope to see you soon for a frightfully good time!
